Hello,

a bit about me:

My name is Haley Burns! I am a second grade teacher in Livonia, Michigan. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with a major in social studies. I am currently enrolled in the MAED program at Michigan State University (Master of Arts in Education). The purpose of this website is to display my work from my time at MSU.

I adore teaching second grade. I previously taught third and fourth grade and was panicked to move down to lower elementary. It ended up being the best thing I ever did! As corny as it sounds, I wake up every morning (tired but) excited to get to work. My students bring me a lot of happiness and getting to help guide children is a major reward.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my siblings, playing guitar and golf, kayaking, and practicing yoga. I also love hiking with my husband and our dog! I enjoy knitting, sewing, and cross-stitching. I love video games and I have become recently addicted to my Nintendo Switch. I am an avid reader and have my Kindle on me at all times!

I try to travel as much as possible and experience all that I can! This year I have stayed in Amsterdam, Berlin, Florence, Venice, Salzburg, and Munich. I studied German in high school and college and enjoy continuing to practice it in my spare time. My goal is to someday be fluent!

As my aforementioned college major might have led you to guess, I am a huge history buff! My traveling is driven by a need to see historical places and learn as much as possible. I have spent hours in the U.S. archives and literal days in the Smithsonian Museums. My husband had to drag me out of them! I have visited countless battlefields and museums alongside my inspirational and equally historically nerdy dad. My trip to Amsterdam was to see Anne Frank's House and my trip to Berlin was in order to visit Museum Island, Checkpoint Charlie, The Reichstag, and the Berlin Wall. History is the world's greatest story!
